Dhaka stocks suffer biggest drop in about three years

Dhaka stocks fell for the fourth day dropping 2.21 percent on Sunday, the steepest decline in about three years as investors dumped shares. The 2.21 percent fall was the sharpest single-day drop in stocks since Apr 26, 2015.
The Dhaka Stock Exchange’s broad index (DSEX) fell 133 points to 5,888 points at the close of trading on Sunday.

 

 

The most recent fall on this scale came on Apr 26, 2015, when stocks fell 2.26 percent to 4,094 points.

 

 

The DSEX index was launched on Jan 27, 2013 and reached 4,055.90 points at the end of trading that day. The highest drop off occurred on Jul 21 of that year, when stocks fell 3.16 percent to 4,090 points.

 

 

The DSEX has lost 5.7 percent this year. The index is 7.3 percent below a 52-week high reached on Nov 27 and 12 percent above the 52-week low recorded on Feb 5.
